At AARP Tampa Bay, we are fortunate to work with an amazing group of volunteers who bring their passion, expertise, and love for the Tampa Bay area to support their community. Though our volunteers come to us from different careers and backgrounds, they have one thing in common – finding value in giving back to the community with AARP.
“Despite leading busy lives, our volunteers tell us that we give them flexible and fulfilling ways to give back,” said Michelle Cyr, associate state director for outreach in Tampa Bay. “Our volunteers have truly enjoyed writing letters to seniors, nursing home residents, veterans and nursing staff to let them know we appreciate them.”
AARP Tampa Bay has taken outreach online to offer accessible, safe alternatives for people to connect. Activities involve checking on your neighbors, hosting virtual events, and facilitating learning through Zoom.
“We make it our goal to include our volunteers as part of a team as we educate older Floridians on matters like maintaining your health, caregiving and staying safe from scammers,” Cyr said.
While the volunteers embark on serious work, such as taking on activities supporting legislative efforts, there’s plenty of opportunity for fun. Join us for virtual book clubs, art classes, yoga sessions and more.
Whatever you’re looking for in volunteering with us, we have something that will fit your interests, schedule, and skills. We’ll work with you one-on-one to find a match of roles from supporting outward facing events to volunteering behind the scenes. Every one of our valued volunteers plays an important role and we’re excited to have you join our team.
