All welcome to view the former Lombardo farm, a 102-acre property that the Manchester Land Trust is raising funds to buy. Meet at 330 Bush Hill Road, Manchester, where volunteers will direct you to drive along the winding dirt road to our starting-off point, on Bush Hill preserve. We'll park at the red barn -- unless you prefer to arrive at 12:30 p.m., park in the lot at 330 Bush Hill Road, and walk in.
Land Trust President Malcolm Barlow will explain the campaign to buy the property, and then we'll take a walk from our currently owned property to view the Lombardo meadows and forest. We'll walk along old farm roads, which are a bit bumpy, but not too steep. After viewing the vista into Glastonbury, you can go back to the parking area, a round trip of 0.6 miles, or continue along an alternative route of about 1.5 miles, with some steep and rough areas. The event will take about 45 to 90 minutes, depending on which walk you choose. Extreme weather cancels, but we will go if only light rain. Questions may be directed to info@manchesterlandtrust.org or phone Terry at 860-643-1823. Check our Facebook page for weather updates. Free. Social distancing and masks required. We have secured several grants in the fund-raising process. The latest is from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. A condition of the grant is that it be matched dollar-for-dollar by private donations of $1000 or more. We will not be asking for money at the 3/6/21 walk, but will have brochures with information on how to contribute.
