Learn about three cultures that thrived in the Aegean Sea region before the rise of the Greeks.

About the Event

Three civilizations flourished in the Aegean Sea region prior to the rise of the Greeks: the Cycladic, the Minoan and the Mycenaean. This two-part exploration, presented by retired art historian Roz Hoadland for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University, will introduce these cultures and their art.

This class, the second of two parts, will continue the discussion of the Minoan culture on the island of Crete begun in the first session on Nov. 1 and will then introduce the Mycenaeans, who were based in fortified citadels on the Greek mainland and built beehive tombs.
