This playful two-act comedy based on Carlo Goldoni's play "Il matrimonio per concorso" has lost none of its appeal almost two centuries after its 1816 premiere.
About the Play
"La Gazzetta" (The Newspaper) is a light-hearted play based on Carlo Goldoni's play "Il matrimonio per concorso." First premiering at the Teatro dei Fiorentini in 1816, this two-act comedy has lost none of its charm more than two centuries later.
In "La Gazzetta," a nouveau-riche merchant places newspaper advertisements to find a suitable husband for his daughter, which leads to amorous entanglements and two happy couples in the end.
Director Marco Carniti sets his colorful production in 1950s Paris with an ensemble cast of Rossini Opera Festival favorites including Nicola Alaimo, Rafaella Lupinacci, Vito Priante, Hasmik Torosyan and Maxim Mironov.
