The 55,000 people who live in Chenango County enjoy the advantage of an outstanding community hospital in their midst. UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital was founded in 1912 and modernized in 1990 with a $7.5 million renovation plan. A 58-bed facility located in the City of Norwich, the hospital has more than 500 employees, making it the largest employer in the city and the fifth largest in the county.

The Norwich hospital includes inpatient and outpatient surgical care units, a women's health center and a maternity and obstetrics unit. UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital staffs an intensive care unit, general surgery, cardiology, diagnostic heart care center, orthopedics, diagnostic imaging and laboratory departments as well as a physician-staffed emergency department.  Other specialties include Ear, Nose & Throat (Otolaryngology) and GI (gastro-intestinal/gastroenterology). The hospital's second floor is dedicated and specially designed as a residential health care/long-term care facility.

UHS Chenango Memorial's primary care network is the county's central source for preventative and routine medical care.  With primary care centers in Sidney, Sherburne, Oxford and Norwich, patients in rural areas have nearby access to quality primary care.  All primary care centers offer same-day appointments and are always accepting new patients.

The hospital also provides services at a large dental center in Norwich, an outpatient diagnostic imaging center and a freestanding physical therapy center.
