Spencer Farm began in 1982 as 'Spencer's You Pick'. The farm started as a dream for Kyle Spencer. Kyle had always wanted to farm from the time he was a small boy. He was involved in a livestock production as well as agronomic crops growing up, but was not raised on a farm. The opportunity to farm didn't seem to be a reality until the Lord blessed him with a neighbor who made it possible for him to rent 10 acres, and as they say, "the rest is history."
The first 10 acres of strawberries were planted in April of 1982, and harvested in June of 1983. With the move to a new farm on Cherry Tree Road in 1986, other crops were added to the strawberries, such as red raspberries, black raspberries, blueberries, and chrysanthemums. Since that time, we have also added pumpkins and most recently, asparagus, and rhubarb. You will find all of these great crops and more at our current location.
Started primarily as a small "pick-your-own" fruit farm; Spencer Farm now sells pre-picked, you-pick, and wholesale fruit around the central Indiana area. In 2008, the farm market was expanded, and has a wide variety of farm fresh Indiana produce as well as hand dipped ice cream, our own homemade fudge and pies, quilts, pottery, candles, jams and jellies, and much more.
Kyle and Lori were married August 7, 1982. They have a son & two daughters and have added to the family a son-in-law. They are all grown now, but their parents are hopeful that one or more of them will some day run the farm. In April of 2014, Mark, the eldest child returned to the farm full time after working in the corporate world.
The most important priority for us here at Spencer Farm is to always serve our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also very important for us to be aware of what our customers desire from us. You have our pledge to continue to serve to the best of our ability. We greatly appreciate those who have made Spencer Farm possible over the past 37 years!
