PYGMALION enters its 13th year in 2017. It has taken many forms over the course of its lifetime, which we think is best for the long term vision of what we believe festivals to be - a representation of the community in which it exists. It started as a music festival, and, well - the definition of a modern music festival has changed drastically over the course of ten years. Thus, “festival” to us is just a celebration of where we exist, Champaign-Urbana, mixed with a more grandiose idea of what is culturally relevant nationwide.
We’ve worked to make sure PYGMALION appears to be much larger in programming scope - integrating several components that are relevant here in Champaign-Urbana and beyond - while maintaining a relatively intimate affair for the patron of the event. You can see bands from not too far of a distance. You can speak directly with innovators and entrepreneurs that build here. You can eat delicious food from local restaurant proprietors. Learn from authors and brilliant poets that hone their craft. Purchase directly from vendors that create with their own hands.
In the end, it shouldn’t be overwhelming - festivals are overwhelming to the senses nowadays. At PYGMALION, we’re getting away from a lot of that, and striving towards meaningful engagement, impact, and sustainability. While we do things a little bit differently, we think there’s something here for you.
