Visit World-Class Art Without Leaving Your Home

Together, AARP and the Barnes Foundation are offering the finest of art and history with four FREE virtual events this year. The Barnes features the world’s greatest collections of modern European paintings that include works by Renoir, Modigliani, Van Gogh, and Marie Laurencin. In addition to paintings, the Barnes has African art, Native American ceramics, Greek antiquities, Pennsylvania German furniture, and decorative ironwork.

Marie Laurencin: Sapphic Paris

Featuring more than 50 works by Laurencin, this tour examines how her vision of a “sapphic modernity” subtly challenged the existing narratives of modern European art.

Tour of the Barnes Foundation

The tour highlights the Barnes collection, focusing on its history and origins, major paintings, and the theory behind Dr. Albert Barnes’ unique displays of work.

Renoir

Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s early works were typically Impressionistic examples of real life. However, by the mid-1880s, he began painting portraits of women in a more formalized technique.

Modigliani

Amedeo Modigliani painted portraits with elongated proportions, mask-like faces, and a sense of melancholy, while his nudes scandalized audiences. Although Modigliani is best known as a painter, he focused on sculpture early in his career.
