Unleash the power of experienced workers

Posted on 04/15/19 by Rebecca Chaplin

ASHEVILLE — While the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in years, workers ages 45 and older are still having a difficult time getting hired. Many employers are misled by the notion that older workers lack flexibility, the fortitude to be trained or the ability to adapt to changes quickly. To help dispel these myths and others AARP in the Mountain Region and NC WORKS CAREER CENTER ASHEVILLE are co-hosting the ASHEVILLE 50+ WORKS EMPLOYER SYMPOSIUM on Monday, May 6.

Participants of this free event can take a deeper look at “Experienced Workers – What’s in it for you?” by exploring the power and potential of older workers. The symposium will include a keynote presentation featuring Phil Lenowitz, recently retired Deputy Director of Human Resources at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

It will also include an expert panel “Making the Case—Unleash the Power and Potential of Experienced Workers” featuring HR directors, employment experts, volunteer coordinators and members of the experienced workforce.

Participants can also network with colleagues over complimentary lunch from noon until 1pm, and attend a job and volunteer fair from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., where job seekers ages 50+ will find volunteer, stipend based, part-time and full-time work opportunities with local employers.

The event is free, but preregistration is required:  aarp.cvent.com/AvlWorks
