Robert Eugene Schneller
AARP volunteer extraordinaire and Andrus Award recipient Robert (Bob) Schneller passed away March 12, 2024, at his home in Grand Junction, surrounded by family. He was 88.
“We at AARP are very sad to hear of Bob’s passing,” said Angela Cortez, AARP Colorado communications director. “He was a great guy. He was engaging, a very hard worker and a lot of fun to hang out with. We loved Bob very much and he will be missed.”
Schneller was a state and regional volunteer coordinator for the AARP Driver’s Safety Program where he taught classes, trained other Driver’s Safety volunteers, and provided essential feedback and vision to improve the program over the years.
He also received the 2011 Andrus Award. The award, named for the founder of AARP, Ethel Percy Andres, is the highest honor a volunteer can receive from AARP for outstanding volunteerism.
“Bob Schneller personified the finest type of AARP volunteer,” Terri Potente, former AARP Colorado president, said. “Whether he was managing and representing the Driver’s Safety Program, advocating for the Western Slope, working a table at an AARP event, or accepting the Andrus Award, his knowledge, intelligence and ready smile always came shining through.”
In addition to his volunteerism, Schneller loved to stay active, boating, jet skiing, water and snow skiing, snowmobiling and ATV exploring with his wife Vicki.
Schneller was retired from Pacific Bell where he was a district Manager of the San Diego Directory Yellow Pages.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two stepsons and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
