AARP Mobile Holds Free Shredding Event, Takes Aim at Identity Theft

Saturday, November 16 from 8:00 am to Noon at Via Center in Midtown

(MOBILE, AL) – AARP Mobile is helping our friends and neighbors fight Identity Theft by holding a free document shredding event this Saturday, November 16. The event will be held 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Via Health, Fitness and Enrichment Center located at 1717 Dauphin St in Mobile.

Alabama residents have reported over 6,000 cases of identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission so far in 2019, a 100% increase from the same time in 2018. Yet a recent AARP survey found that almost half of consumers ignore experts’ recommendations to regularly shred their sensitive financial records.

This event is part of the nation-wide antifraud work by AARP’s local offices including: paper-shredding events, fraud education programs, tele-town halls and phone bank sessions to warn consumers of the latest scams. Consumers can visit www.aarp.org/FraudWatchNetwork to find more information about protecting themselves from fraud and scams.
