Investment fraud restitution available in North Dakota
If you have experienced investment fraud, you may be eligible for restitution.
During the 2023 ND Legislative session, AARP North Dakota worked to build upon existing statutes to protect vulnerable adults, including the creation of a Restitution Assistance Fund to pay back victims of investment fraud after successful prosecution of the eligible crimes.
AARP ND encourages people to report suspected investment fraud by filing a report with the ND Securities Department.

A recent AARP survey found that nine in 10 Americans 18-plus (229 million people) encountered a fraud attempt in the past year – and that one in six of them (33 million people) lost money as a result. One out of five older adults are victims of financial exploitation, and the average victim loses $120,000.
Senate Bill 2325 was introduced to combat fraud and other financial crimes, including investment fraud. The law went into affect July 1, 2023, and establishes a restitution fund under the ND Securities Commission. This fund can be used in cases where a final order has been issued by the Securities Commissioner and there is no money to compensate a victim.
