Help the City of Gary Shape its Mobile Mental Health Unit
In 2023 the City of Gary passed an ordinance that dedicated $1.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding to a Mobile Mental Health Initiative.
According to a 2022 AARP survey, 45% of the 50-plus population had been bothered by anxiety, and 34% said they had little interest or pleasure in doing things.
Additionally, 31% had feelings of depression or hopelessness.
The numbers clearly show that mental health is a serious matter for older Hoosiers.
That’s why AARP Indiana supported the efforts in Gary as well as helping to shape the Indiana Behavioral Health Commission’s recommendations that will be made to the Indiana General Assembly in an October report.
Gary is now set to get the mobile crisis response off the ground and is looking for input from the community.
Gary Mayor Eddie Melton appointed Dr. Janet Seabrook to conduct conversations to assess Gary’s needs.
