AARP California is commemorating National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, with a series of events in the Los Angeles region, home to the nation’s largest Latino population. The month honors the contributions of generations of Hispanic Americans. On Sunday, Sept. 16, AARP California marks Mexican Independence Day by sponsoring Family Days, with mariachi music, art workshops and other entertainment at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes in downtown Los Angeles.
On Sunday, Sept. 30, AARP California and the LA Phil orchestra are cosponsoring CicLAvia, which will turn streets from the Hollywood Bowl to the Walt Disney Concert Hall into an auto-free zone for biking, running and other nonmotorized modes of transportation. Participants can enjoy food-truck wares, music and more along the route.
AARP will be among the sponsors of the Visión y Compromiso 16th Annual Conference, Oct. 4 through 6, at the Ontario Convention Center. Other events include the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation’s Fiesta Ranchera in Montebello, on Saturday, Sept. 15; and the sixth annual Latina Golfers Association tournament, on Saturday, Sept. 22, in Alhambra.
