AARP Virginia Recognizes Judith Jones for her Dedication and Commitment to Community Service with its Most Prestigious Volunteer Award

Blacksburg, Va. – Judith Jones of Blacksburg has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2025 AARP Virginia Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.

AARP Virginia selected Jones for her remarkable service, which has greatly benefited her community, reflected AARP’s vision and mission and inspired other volunteers. As community service chair of AARP Chapter 2613-New River Valley, Jones has spearheaded initiatives including a “Books for Vets” program and a donation-matching program to support community members facing food insecurity.

The award was presented to Jones on Dec. 2, 2025 in Blacksburg. In honor of Jones’ achievement, AARP Virginia made a $500 donation to the charity of her choice, the Imagination Library of Montgomery County.

“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” said AARP Virginia State President Joyce Williams. “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors and the programs they serve.”

Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.

With 1 million members in Virginia, AARP is the largest organization working on behalf of people age 50-plus and their families in the Commonwealth.
