AARP Pennsylvania Joins Pittsburgh Mayor For Black History Month Celebration
AARP PA joined Mayor Ed Gainey and the City of Pittsburgh Office of Special Events for a celebration that spotlighted the transformative impact of the Freedom House Ambulance Service.
This pioneering EMS, staffed by skilled Black paramedics from Pittsburgh's Hill District, introduced advanced medical training and techniques and created the blueprint for modern-day EMS, and many of its practices remain in use to this day.
Nine AARP PA volunteers joined to network with the Mayor and City officials, honorees and more than 200 other community leaders and attendees.
Local staff had the opportunity to introduce the event and share about AARP’s local efforts to help make Pittsburgh a more livable community for adults 50+ and people of all ages.
