Downsize & Declutter with Kris & Diane (July 14)
Join AARP California as we explore why “stuff” can be so important, tips to help you let go of things, and easy-to-follow steps on downsizing and decluttering. Family Caregiving & Loneliness (Rescheduled to August 11th)
Providing care for a family member or loved one can be time demanding, and often takes a toll on one’s social life. As a result, many caregivers experience loneliness, which can lead to depression and other physical and emotional challenges. Join AARP California as we talk with Christina Irving, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the Client Services Director at Family Caregiver Alliance, as well as experienced family caregivers, Jenn Chan and Lily Liu about caregiving journeys and tips for managing social isolation and loneliness. HomeFit with Grace-Sonia and Andrew (July 21)
Join AARP California as we hear from Certified Aging in Place Specialist and AARP Volunteer, Grace-Sonia Melanio and Andrew Mersmann from the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation (AARP membership not required to attend). Let’s Take it Outside with Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority (July 26)
Join us and hear from Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority to learn about the outdoor opportunities they offer, from community events to hikes, as well as their longstanding and ongoing work to protect land and enhance access to open spaces for all. The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority conserves the natural environment, supports agriculture, and connects people to nature, by protecting open spaces, natural areas, and working farms and ranches for future generations. The Authority envisions the Santa Clara Valley and its surrounding hillsides as a beautiful place where a vibrant network of interconnected open spaces, trails, wildlife habitats, and thriving agricultural lands enrich the region’s cities and make it an exceptional and healthy place to live, work, learn, and play. This event is part of AARP California’s Let’s Take it Outside™ series that allows participants to learn about and explore various outdoor public places and spaces.
Senior Safari: Enjoy a Day at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (July 27) Join AARP California for Happy Hollow Park & Zoo’s Senior Safari series and enjoy a day at the zoo. This program is designed to help older adults improve their health, avoid social isolation, and enjoy a unique environment that stimulates both mind and body. Senior Safari admission and parking are free for those ages 50-plus that arrive before 10 a.m. PT (the park opens to seniors at 9 a.m. PT), and guests are welcome to stay for the day after gates open to the public.
