Joan Geary’s abstract paintings are a result of her observances of the natural world and the universe over the course of a lifetime. Breathtaking landscapes, emblazoned sunsets, flora & fauna, and celestial beings in the night sky are synthesized in her mind and visually reconstructed as a sort of mental mapping of her perceptions. Geary’s primary interests are the colors and shapes within nature, which in turn are rearranged and manipulated on the surface to become this “third thing.”Through her ongoing study of color theory, she strives to achieve an ethereal luminosity in the work that points to the divine.
