We’ll learn about the women who made this fight a success, including Alice Paul, Ida B. Wells and Inez Milholland, and the memorial that honors them.
About the Event
The Turning Point Suffragist Memorial commemorates the suffrage movement in the U.S., culminating in the passage of the 19th Amendment in August 1920. However, not all women were given the right to vote until racial discrimination in voting was prohibited in the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Join us to learn about the women who made this fight a success, including Alice Paul, Lucy Burns, Mary Church Terrell, Ida B. Wells and Inez Milholland. We’ll also highlight the memorial, located in Occoquan Regional Park, where many suffragists were imprisoned. Today, it features educational stations that recount the 72-year struggle for women's suffrage, honoring the perseverance and sacrifices of the women involved.
