AARP Hearing Center
Join us to hear how Rodino rose from Newark’s Little Italy to lead the Nixon impeachment hearings, shaping civil rights and immigration policy over a 40-year career.
About the Event
Hear about the life and career of New Jersey congressman Peter W. Rodino Jr., who became a national hero in 1974 for his steady and bipartisan leadership during the Nixon impeachment hearings.
The son of an Italian immigrant, Rodino transcended the poverty of Newark’s Little Italy to become a lawyer, war hero and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. During his four decades on Capitol Hill, Rodino played a major role in issues that continue to resonate today, including immigration and civil rights.
He worked closely with seven presidents and many national figures, including Dr. Martin Luther King. His life reflected the major contours of the last century, and we’ll examine the impact of these events on preparing Rodino for his most challenging assignment.
