About the Event
In collaboration with The Generations Project, AARP Oregon presents a monthly virtual social gathering to connect people in the LGBTQ+ community and allies, using writing and discussion prompts. Topics vary from the light and humorous to the personal, allowing participants to find a subject they find easy to write or talk about.
This October, our guest storyteller is Dr. Wang Newton, a Taiwanese-born American interdisciplinary artist and one of the world’s most recognized drag kings. With a career spanning over two decades, Wang has captivated audiences across the globe through live performances, digital media, and advocacyWang is a pioneer in drag king culture, having been featured in The New York Times and other major outlets for their groundbreaking work.
Between each writing period, group conversation is guided by facilitators from The Generation Project, which cultivates intergenerational community across ages, classes and sexual and gender identities and preserves LGBTQ+ history through oral story sharing. No writing experience is necessary.
