Learn to spot and avoid misleading home equity “investment” loans that put your hard-won home equity at risk. What are the warning signs?
About the Event
Home Equity "Investment" (HEI) loans are aggressively being targeted at older homeowners and endangering their hard-earned equity with promises of large up-front cash in exchange for no monthly payments. These complex, high-cost mortgage loans are often mislabeled as "option contracts" and not as loans to circumvent consumer protection laws, leaving homeowners vulnerable to significant financial loss.
We will discuss the threats posed by HEI loans, including hidden effective interest rates and unaffordable lump-sum balloon payments. We will also present key legislative and regulatory solutions that states can implement to protect homeowners, such as clarifying that HEI loans are subject to existing mortgage laws and requiring disclosure of maximum repayment amounts.
