Join this LGBTQ+ social gathering to write and share.
About the Event
In collaboration with The Generations Project, AARP Oregon presents a monthly virtual social gathering to connect people within the LGBTQ+ community and allies, using writing and discussion prompts. Topics vary, allowing participants to find a subject they find easy to write or talk about.
This month’s LGBTQ+ Writing Party theme is Embracing Identity and Self-Expression Over Time. We invite participants to reflect on their personal journeys of self-discovery and how their identities have evolved, deepened, and thrived over time. Our storyteller, Renata Ramos, a Latina Trans woman who transitioned in her 50s, will share her powerful experiences navigating the worlds of stage, TV, and film as an actor, and now as a passionate Trans activist with SAGE in Brooklyn. Renata’s story highlights the resilience, strength, and beauty in embracing one’s true self at any stage of life.
Between writing periods, conversation is guided by facilitators from The Generation Project, which cultivates intergenerational community and preserves LGBTQ+ history through oral story sharing. No writing experience is necessary.
