Join us for the second part of our three-part series on traditional Indian cooking, with recipes originating in the Indian state of Gujarat.
We’ll be preparing a Gujarati-style peas and potato curry, also known as mattar and batata shaak; parathas, a flaky flatbread; and a kachumber salad made with chopped veggies. If you’d like, download the list of ingredients to have on hand during the class.
The main components of Indian meals, in general, are a dal (lentil soup), a shaak or curry (vegetable), rice and flat bread. Raita (yogurt dip), kachumber salad and papad (lentil crisp) may be added as side dishes depending on what is being served. Indian desserts or mithai (sweets) are popular all over the world and are served at all celebrations, and as a prasad, or daily offering.
