Come along as we explore maritime history in the Dawnland - New England - and Africa.
About the Event
Embark on a thought-provoking journey through the millennia-old maritime cultures of the Dawnland (the Indigenous name for New England) and the African continent.
Akeia de Barros Gomes, senior curator for social maritime histories at the Mystic Seaport Museum, will illuminate the exhibit Entwined: Freedom, Sovereignty and the Sea; historical encounters between the people; their contributions and traditions; and the resilience of Black and Indigenous communities in the face of colonialism and dispossession, emphasizing the role of kinship and community.
