In honor of Juneteenth, we’ll explore African Americans’ relationship to the military.
About the Event
AARP California’s annual conversation in recognition of Juneteenth will feature Thanayi Jackson, a history professor at California Polytechnic State University, in a conversation linking the significance of Juneteenth with Black Americans’ military service and experience as veterans.
In exploring Black Americans’ contributions to and relationship with the military, we’ll cover such areas as the historical impact of Black soldiers, navigating access to veterans’ benefits and resources and how civilians can play an active role in advocating for veterans.
