About Us:

Do-Re-Mi Play sprung from over 15 years of experience hosting other music programs and drum circles, teaching music classes in Sunday School, throwing dance parties and music events, being around kids as they played and explored, and learning from them, as well as from all the teachers, musicians, and parents who came through our music space

The development of Do-Re-Mi Play brings years of musical and music education experience, whether it be teaching, developing, and implementing early childhood music curricula, or composing, managing, and performing in multiple genres. Do-Re-Mi Play started with the belief that the program should be musically rich, developmentally appropriate, and also fun and exciting for everyone involved, at an affordable rate.

Do-Re-Mi Play also comes from my own experience as a mom and a caregiver. I am lucky that I can be with my daughter all the time, and among the many things we found to do together, the musical activities (and reading and painting with them) were the most memorable, whether we were going to a class or a live show, or just tuning in to the rich variety of music that's around us in New York and New Jersey. These kinds of moments held a huge sense of wonder, and they inspired everything I've done since at Do-Re-Mi Play.

Shelley Rodriguez, Director of Do-Re-Mi Play, is a former GED Coordinator and Youth Development Specialist for NYC Public Schools. She also provided counseling and led Musical groups at afterschool programs for children and adolescents. Shelley has directed Worship Teams at RHOW_BK Church and periodically teaches Sunday School at RHOW_BK. Shelley holds a Master’s degree in Counseling with certification towards Play Therapy. She has over 9 years of experience in Childcare and in Child and Adolescent Development.
