A cancer researcher will share insights on how the disease is like an invasive species and how the comparison might suggest treatment approaches.
About the Event
There are striking similarities between cancer and invasive species in terms of how they each disrupt ecosystems. There are also parallels in eradication strategies. Dr. Christopher Pennell, associate education director at the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Cancer Center, will use the invasive species paradigm to introduce key concepts in cancer and comparisons that might suggest novel treatment strategies.
Dr. Pennell’s areas of research are tumor immunology and tumor immunotherapy, which explore interactions between tumors and the immune system and how we can exploit the immune system to treat malignant tumors.
