Direct Patient Support
This can include sitting with patients, reading aloud, assisting patients with certain activities, or just listening can be over the phone as well.

Family Support and Respite
A volunteer may be asked to pick up and deliver groceries or personal items to the home. Respite is when the volunteer spends time, usually an hour or two, with the patient allowing the primary caregiver time alone or away.

Bereavement Support
Volunteers are often used to support this process through clerical support, attending meetings and/or providing assistance with bereavement mailing.

Special Skills and Interests
Hospice Volunteers with special skills may be asked to provide adjunct therapies. Qualified volunteers who provide services for the hospice must meet all requirements associated with their specialty area.
