Your leadership skills can help community members claim larger Tax Refunds! AARP Foundation Tax-Aide provides free personal income tax counseling and tax preparation to middle- and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 50 and older. District Coordinators provide 2nd line leadership implementing Tax-Aide programs in an assigned geographic District (typically a county) within a State.

The District Coordinator (DC) sets and communicates District goals for the volunteer team, then manages to them delivering National program and local objectives within Tax-Aide and IRS policies & procedures. DCs are the focal point for recruiting new Volunteers within their geography, for nurturing and developing volunteers within their district, and for developing a pipeline of candidates for future District Management Team openings. The DC is assisted by a District Management Team of volunteers including Local Coordinators, who are each responsible for assigned Sites, plus Training, Technology, Administrative, and optionally Communications specialists.

A State level team including a State Coordinator and matching specialists supports the District Management Team. Each Location Coordinator manages a team of Counselors, who interface directly with Taxpayers to provide Tax Counseling and Preparation, plus Client Facilitators who manage queuing at each Site and help Taxpayers prepare for their meeting with a Counselor. Familiarity with income tax law and processes is helpful but not required, District Coordinators may choose, but are not expected to prepare taxes. The DC need not be an IRS-certified Counselor unless they choose to also volunteer in a Counselor role preparing taxes.

Time commitment varies by geographic area, number of District sites, and number of volunteers. The position requires the most time from September through May. The time commitment is front-end loaded with Season start-up, planning, recruiting, and training in the Fall through January; then winds down to monitoring sites throughout the tax season and wrap-up reporting at season close.

Skill Desired: Public Speaking/Meeting Facilitation, Project Management, Marketing, Information Technology, Education/Training

Matching Interests: Relevant Experience Appreciated, Indoors, Geared for 50+ volunteers, Seniors, Community, Poverty
