Need a volunteer to make education presentations to Duval seniors at venues throughout Duval County.
The home base of operations will be an office location either at the Jacksonville Sheriffﾒs Office Zone 6 on Dunn Ave or at the Better Business Bureau office on Beach Blvd.
Work involves speaking to individuals and groups about how to avoid being taken advantage of by anyone trying to cheat them of their money. Our education talks are only about financial well-being and avoidance of financial loss. We do not educate about insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, in-home safety, medicine abuse, how to choose a doctor, how to avoid falls outside, how to care for your pets, or how to find love.
We are not about warm and fuzzy. We are about cold, hard cash. We educate seniors to avoid frauds, fraud, investment schemes, cheating contractors, eBay frauds, unscrupulous car repair people, and grandma scams.
We teach people how to know when they are about to be scammed.
We train you so you can train others.
Work usually involves taking to small groups at an agreed upon venue for periods between 15 minutes to an hour. All of your work will be in the field, outside of the base office. You will use your own vehicle to go to and from the venue. You will be reimbursed at the government rate of 44.5 cents per mile. If you drive 5 miles there and 5 miles back, we pay you $4.50 for your use of your vehicle to fulfill our mission.
Applicants will be trained in all the policy, procedures, and techniques required to perform at a superior level.
Seniors Vs. Crime is a non-profit organization working with the Florida Attorney General to perform the missions of (1) righting civil wrongs for persons either who are citizens of Florida or who do business with Florida residents or companies and (2) educating Florida residents about avoiding financial fraud.
Seniors Vs. Crime is a statewide organization with more than 40 offices usually embedded in law enforcement agencies and staffed with senior volunteers. Each year Seniors Vs. Crime returns more than $2,000,000 to folks who felt they were cheated. $50,000 were returned to Duval seniors this fiscal year from July to June 2019. None of the volunteers are paid for their work. None of the seniors cheated have to pay a penny for the service. Everything is free. Isnﾒt that nice?
Each year Seniors Vs. Crime makes presentations to groups on how to avoid being cheated. This fiscal year from July to June 2019, we made 383 presentations throughout Florida. 32 of those presentations were made in Duval.
