For those who cannot drive themselves or have no other means of getting to their treatment, our Road To Recoveryﾮ volunteers donate their spare time to give cancer patients a much-needed lift.
Even the best treatment canﾒt work if a patient canﾒt get there.
That is why a successful transportation assistance program can be a tremendous, potentially life-saving asset to your community.
If you own or have regular access to a safe, reliable vehicle, then you are already on the road to volunteering.
But you will also need:
- A good driving record
- A current, valid driverﾒs license
- Proof of adequate automobile insurance
- Completion of the American Cancer Society training course
- Regular access to a computer, laptop, tablet computer
Schedule availability, typically Monday-Saturday
First, you will need to submit some basic information to the American Cancer Society. From there a volunteer care specialist will contact you to discuss the program, your expectations, and what you hope to gain from the experience so we can ensure a good fit.
Then you will take some required training, which is self-paced and takes around 90 minutes. From there you will complete a background check and once approved, provide your schedule availability so you can begin being matched to patients needing transportation.
