MADD's court monitoring program helps to ensure that drunk and drugged driving cases are handled consistently and swiftly, that victims are treated appropriately and their rights are upheld during court proceedings. As a MADD Court Monitor Volunteer, individuals are responsible for collecting and observing the court system.

This volunteer role supports MADD's mission by observing the court system and collecting data on DWI misdemeanor cases to help identify trends in sentencing. Training for this volunteer role is provided by MADD in an online-webinar style format after the successful completion of a criminal and motor vehicle record background check. Volunteers have the opportunity to become certified in MADD's court monitoring program at the end of the volunteer training.

This opportunity is suitable for flexible schedules. MADD staff will work with volunteers to assign cases to follow in the volunteer's local area. Volunteers choose dates to attend court and monitor cases and observations are made during regular business hours. Volunteers should expect to be at the courthouse for 2-6 hours on their chosen dates. Please note that although volunteers have flexibility, daily case schedules are determined at the discretion of the presiding judge.
