The YMCA of Yonkers began in 1882, somewhat by accident.  Its founders were headed to New York City and found themselves lost in Yonkers,  While there, the decision was made to open a new chapter of the YMCA.  130 years later it is a major part of the downtown life of the City of Yonkers.
