The YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard, an IRS recognized 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization, received its provisional charter membership with the national YMCA in January 2003 and qualified for membership in January of 2007.  The Y signed a 60-year lease with the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in May 2004 for 5-plus acres of land.  In 2005, the Y began preliminary building designs, and laid the foundation for a $14 million capital campaign to construct a full service YMCA.  In August 2009 the Y kicked off its Charter Member campaign and within less than a year had over 300 members. On June 19, 2010, the Y opened its doors to the public with a full offering of programs and services for children, families, and individuals.
