HISTORY:

Founded in 1992, Yampa Valley Land Trust is a nonprofit land conservation organization based in Steamboat Springs that works exclusively in Northwest Colorado.

YVLT partners with willing landowners to secure conservation easements which permanently protect scenic landscapes, river corridors, species-rich wildlife habitat, open and productive ranchland, and other privately and publicly-owned open land resources throughout the Yampa River Valley and Northwest Colorado.

The organization also collaborates with other community leaders to open new areas featuring public access to recreation – helping to quench people’s thirst for hiking, biking, fishing, watching wildlife, and adventure.  This includes portions of Howelsen Hill and Emerald Mountain, the backdrop and “crown jewel” of Steamboat Springs, as well as various access public access points to the Yampa River.

YVLT’s conservation projects provide an immeasurable lasting benefit to the community – including its residents, businesses, second homeowners, and the estimated 600,000 to a million people who visit Steamboat Springs and its surroundings every year.  This work is on display 24/7, 365 days a year, and free of charge to its countless beneficiaries.
