Opened in 1981 with the assistance of Bill’s brother Bob Carey, Carey-Mangum Gallery in Greensboro, North Carolina debuted in meager surroundings. Bill took over 900 sq. ft. of a high profile dress shop, placing the painting he was working on in the window at the end of each day. The grocery store next door was just the ticket for early exposure to his work. Customers marveled that even at that time, Bill was a prolific artist — generating a painting a week.

In just a few years his limited edition prints were catching the attention of many collectors across the state. In just a couple of years, his business blossomed so beautifully that it allowed him to assume the entire store space. This allowed him to showcase his work exclusively in a 2,000 square foot gallery.

Nearly 5,000 square feet now showcase Bill’s paintings and limited edition prints. The store has been credited as one of the finest art galleries in the South.
