History :

Whole Art Theatre Company was founded in 1976 by German immigrant Werner Krigelstein, who wanted to offer theatre to rural communities. Since its beginnings in the small town of Lawrence, Whole Art has moved to the Old Whistle Stop building in Kalamazoo, the corner of Locust and Vine, the Park Trades Center, and, in 1996, to the present where we perform in two spaces, the Epic Theatre and the Whole Art Studio at either end of the Kalamazoo mall. Over the years the theatre has grown and changed in many ways, but always with the intent ofoffering unique theatrical experiences to both its audiences and its actors.

Our mission is to bring socially significant issues to the forefront --issues of gay and lesbian rights particularly, social justice, human rights, and women's rights.
