White Eagle Multicultural Pow-Wow

History:

Ralph Moisa III aka White Eagle dreamed of a gathering that would break down the walls of misunderstanding and bring together individuals of different races.

As a child, Ralph was often discriminated against because of the color of his skin. Rather than responding in anger, Ralph learned more about his culture with the aid of his parents. In this way, Ralph hoped to gain a greater appreciation for other cultures through understanding of his own culture.

As Ralph's understanding of his culture grew, so did his heart. He began to display a great deal of reverence for all creatures, a connection he shared with his ancestors.

When on a walk in December of 1995, Ralph noticed a Red Tail Hawk caught on a power line. Without hesitation, Ralph heroically climbed the power line.

Sadly, Ralph lost his life while trying to save the Hawk.

In 2000, Ralph's parents organized the first Multicultural Pow Wow in memory of their son and his dream to break down the walls of misunderstanding and to mend the "Sacred Hoop"

This is the 15th year of our celebration of the 7 generations to help mend the Sacred Hoop. We hope that all of you can join us this year in our circle, to share your heart, support, and help to mend the Sacred Hoop.

The Native Americans feel that the Sacred Hoop has been broken. They feel that this means that we have forgotten what is important to us, our children, families, communities and most of all our Mother Earth. If we fail to take care of these different aspects of the hoop, then the hoop will continue to be broken.

We live in a new and dangerous world. If need to teach our children, the 7th Generation, to be accepting and tolerant of our ever changing world. We also want them to know who they are, where they come from, and to be proud of their heritage, so that the Sacred Hoop may begin to mend.

It is our goal to bring all races and nations together, to begin to bring down the walls of misunderstanding, to share their heritages, and the history of the nations, through music, dance, song, and stories. Through this we hope to show that all of us are the same.
