Washington Community Y

121 E Main St
Washington, IA 52353

The history of Washington Community Y can be traced back to May 1877 when a group of local Washingtonians felt the need to establish a YMCA (one of the largest not-for-profit community service organizations in the United States). It all began with Bible reading and a revival movement with several locations on the downtown square.

Then in 1924, the Washington Community Y erected a building at the present location in the heart of Washington. Today, a 62,000 square foot facility sets at that location and is one of the most active places in town.

We strive to provide quality programs, classes, and activities that will help you enhance your life. We pride ourselves on being more than just a place to get a good work out. We are a place to belong, to feel a part of something and to make a difference. Whether through being a member, volunteer, a coach or player in a volleyball league, the WCY can get you involved in activities YOU want and need to feel vital and fulfilled. Whatever your interests, the WCY has a program, service or event ready JUST FOR YOU.

All WCY programs teach, communicate and demonstrate the positive values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. At the WCY you will have the opportunity to participate in programs that focus on healthy spirit, mind and body.

The Washington Community Y dedicated to serving our community by offering programs that build strong kids and strong families.

Everybody plays and everybody wins! With the emphasis on participation, each child plays, regardless of size or ability. As a result, youth learn good sportsmanship, teamwork, build self-esteem, and have a great time!
