Three generations of Warner's have overseen our Michigan winemaking firm since its inception in 1938 by John Turner and James K. Warner as an adjunct to the family banking, farm-supply, and farming businesses. Over the years, family members have developed this very unique and popular site. Situated on the riverbank in downtown Paw Paw, the heart of Michigan's wine country, Warner has transposed the village's old water-works building into the winery's Wine Haus. This state-designated historical structure, built in 1898, is unique with its interesting architecture; an exaggerated roof line and tall, solitary chimney. Inside this unusual façade is the visitor tasting room which also features a re-creation display of functioning European Champagne Caves. Adjacent to the tasting room building is and old 1914 Grand Trunk Railroad passenger rail car that serves as a popular fun-spot for private parties.
Warner also produces a line of French hybrid wines and two flavorful non-alcoholic sparkling fruit juices, as well as dessert wines such as Cream Sherry and Port. The best-selling wine in the Warner product line, called Liebestrauben, is a blend of hybrid grapes with a touch of Muscat grape to give it the pleasant sweet taste of the popular German Liebfraumilch wines.
Although Warner's distribution of their product is primarily in Michigan, in year's past a line of wines called "Warner West" were made and distributed on the West Coast.Whether it involves history, wine-making or just plain fun, the Warner winery grounds have much to offer tourists passing by the Paw Paw exit of I-94 between Chicago and Detroit.
