Thanks to the hard work of many individuals, businesses and families the Wapakoneta Family YMCA is one of the pillars of the Wapakoneta community!
In 1996, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Diocese of Cincinnati generously donated 10.5 acres of real estate for the construction of an all new Y.
From 1992-2007, the Y operated the community outdoor pool.
In January of 1997, the Wapakoneta Riverview Community Center at 8 North Blackhoof was donated free and clear as a start-up facility for the Y and was used for programming until closing its doors in November 2009. The building is no longer owned or operated by the YMCA.
The building now known as "the Y" opened its doors in January 2000.
In 2007, the Y conducted a $1 million campaign for building expansion and in 2008, a new wellness center, storage garage and youth center were added to the facility. The old wellness center also underwent renovation to become the new Community Room.
The Auglaize County Council on Aging moved their satellite office into the YMCA in 2012 and the site serves as recreation, fellowship and meal site for countless senior citizens in our community.
In August 2012, the Y remolded the youth center into a second aerobics studio (Studio B) for fitness classes. Studio B also serves as our youth center throughout the week and weekend.
In January 2013, the Y purchased 4.4 acres of property from St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Diocese of Cincinnati including a playground and ball diamond to bring the total campus to around 15 acres.
The Y continues to consistently run a lean and strong facility and thanks to the support of the community we anticipate many great things to come for your Y and your community.
