Valdez Gold Rush Days

Valdez, AK 99686

Gold Rush Days is a non-profit organization that hosts an annual 5-day celebration honoring the past, present, and future of Valdez, Alaska. The year was 1962. . . Jerry Plaster, La Rue Rogers and Enola "Shiny" Olds were sitting in the lobby of an old hotel in Old Town Valdez, waiting to meet with some soldiers for coffee. The girls were bored to the bone. There was nothing going on and nothing coming up; so they met with the soldiers and started plotting and planning what they could do to stir up a little excitement in Old Town. After several pots of coffee, the group finally came up with a theme, and so Gold Rush Days in Valdez, Alaska was born.
