Uncle Billy’s Day started in 1949 as a one-day event to commemorate the founding of the Trade Lot where local residents brought their vegetables and livestock to sell.  Uncle Billy Lane, member of the Lane family, founders of the town of Altavista, was steadfast in bringing his goods in a wagon to sell at the Trade Lot and it was named after him for his dedication. Mr. Lane also served as master auctioneer and provided entertainment.  The Trade Lot continues to operate the first Saturday of each month as a giant flea market. The first weekend in June was established to celebrate the Trade Lot and over the years it has grown into a two-day festival including the Trade Lot and also:
