Mission Statement:
The Trolley Museum of New York is a non-profit educational corporation chartered by the New York State Board of Regents. It was founded to preserve, collect, exhibit (including operate) and interpret a collection of trolley and rail transportation equipment and related historical artifacts, including documents and photographs.
The collection of artifacts will include trolley and rail operating equipment, archival materials, and objects related to trolley and rail history. Materials, equipment an objects of significance to Kingston, the Hudson Valley Region and New York City are of particular interest.
The Museum will collect and maintain a library and archive collection which will be available to the public for research. It will foster an enhanced public awareness of the influence of trolleys and urban rail transportation on the cities, and help explore the sociological, logistical and developmental impacts that this new mobility had on urban dwellers.
The Museum will exhibit, restore and operate appropriate pieces of its motive equipment and display static exhibits which will provide educational and recreation experiences for visitors. Through programs, lectures, publications and special events, the museum will augment its efforts to provide a meaningful education experience for its visitors and those who use it as a resource.
