Vision:
The vision for the Colfax Theatre is to present film, theatre, multidisciplinary art, dance, live music, and community events as a sustainable community art and cultural resource.
About Us:
The Colfax Theatre opened in 1939, and has since served as an important Art Deco landmark in the historic town of Colfax, a mining town from the 19th-century gold rush. The Theatre experienced major renovations in the 1980s, and again during the last decade – constantly adapting to the changing needs of the community.
The Theatre was acquired in late 2016 by Anastazia and Gala Aranaga, co-directors of the performance art ensemble Bad Unkl Sista. Since then, significant progress has been made with upgrading the sound and lighting systems and historically-inspired painting. The Theatre has become a nest of active collaboration with many local and regional artisans and technicians, all supporting the restoration of the Theatre to a level of splendor with handcrafted finishing touches – a palace of beauty, with delightful and whimsical surprises throughout.
