Talking Books Library

The Lee County Talking Books Library (a division of the National Library Service or NLS) provides recorded books and magazines to people who need to hear their reading. The library has been serving the local community since 1988, when it began as a sub-regional operation housed within the Fort Myers-Lee County Public Library. In December 2013, Talking Books Library moved to its new permanent home on Lee Street in the Fort Myers River District. Lee County's Talking Books Library has thousands of holdings in its collection and access to more than 2.5 million titles that are available in many languages. The library also loans narrated magazines and braille materials to its patrons. 

Talking Books are books and magazines recorded for people who need to “hear” their reading, because of a visual disability or a physical disability that prevents holding a book or turning a page.  Talking Books are played on special players provided free by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, a division of the Library of Congress.

The books and equipment are mailed postage free to eligible readers from a digital collection that appeals to readers of all ages and interests.
