About Us:
The Sylvan Springs property was conveyed to the County from the Federal Government in 1950 and was dedicated on October 23, 1954. It was one of the most popular parks for many years. St. Louis businessman Howard C. Ohlendorf donated the carousel from the old Forest Park Highlands Amusement Park to the County. The carousel operated at Sylvan Springs from 1966 until 1979.
In November of 2005, St. Louis County Park Staff met with local skaters for initial discussions to create and construct a skatepark in Sylvan Springs Park. Through the combined efforts of park staff and skaters, a design combining both street and vert elements was completed in 2006. Constructed totally by park staff, the first phase of the skate park was opened in November of 2007.
Park Hours: 8 a.m. to one half hour past official sunset, except when reservations are issued.
