For the most part of the 1900′s this area, in which Swansea Country Club now sits, served as a private hunting and fishing preserve for Mr. Isaac Merriman of Fall River, Massachusetts. Mr. Merriman, a prominent textile merchant, built a levy and damn along the Palmer River creating a beautiful 50-acre freshwater pond.

In the early 1960′s Mr. Nelson Doyle purchased the property and by 1963, with the aid of Geoffrey Cornish, the magnificent course of Swansea Country Club was born.

In 1992, the current owners purchased the property and set out to renovate the course and bring modern maintenances to this classic golfing gem. Much has been done to this beautiful course and with every year comes new improvements to resulting in consistently excellent playing conditions year round.
