It all started in my younger days with my brothers and sister. We knew where every apple tree grew in the countryside surrounding our parents and neighbors farms. Late summer into October we would venture out after school and week-ends to taste the fruit. We learned quick which apples tasted good for eating and the apples Mom wanted for baking and sauce. After eating to our bellies content, we would tie knots in our hooded jackets and fill up our home made picking bags.My brother Gale and I who is a year younger than me were always the berry pickers. When blackberry season was near we were in our favorite spots filling the stainless picking pails to the brim.
We would deliver them to our number one customer (Mom) so she could make homemade pies and fresh jam. Some were saved for eating on our breakfast cereal. Our other customers were Theron and Al our mailmen and Elmer who owned the gas station in town. "We were salesmen and didn't know it".Fifty years later, that little boy that always loved his fruit and vegetables and the outdoors now grows apples, blueberries and vegetables and much more.I'd even agree that the apples today taste better than those that grew wild near my parents farm.Yeah' the pantry and cellar were always filled with canned fruit ,pickles and vegetables from the large garden I'm so glad that I grew up back then with my brothers and sister and helped put food on my parents table. The past has now become the present an occupation and business. Remember to always follow your dreams I did.
